About
I'm Stephen Boyle, a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN) and Holistic Lifestyle Coach under the Chek Institute. My job is to create individualized lifestyle programs that focus on diet, sleep, exercise, and reducing stress in the hormone, immune, digestion, and detoxification systems. We use comprehensive questionnaires instead of expensive lab work to seek out healing opportunities. My mission is to give you the education and tools you need to adopt a healthy lifestyle and carry it through your path in life.
I suffered several health challenges myself, and in 2012, the effects of too much stress snuck up on me. I had no idea how silent and dangerous stress could be. Let me share my story of how I ended up where I am now and how I can help you overcome your own battle.
With a career spanning back to 2007, my journey in the health and fitness industry has been a testament to my commitment to fostering well-being. Originating from Ireland, my early professional experiences included contributing to the local fitness scene. However, amidst the challenges posed by Ireland's economic downturn in 2008, I sought broader horizons.
With a year of personal training expertise under my belt, I made the strategic decision to embark on a journey to Australia, seeking new opportunities and experiences. It was during this period of exploration that I found myself drawn to the vibrant city of Vancouver, Canada, where my professional trajectory took a significant turn.
From the outset, Vancouver captivated me with its dynamic atmosphere and opportunities. This marked the beginning of a chapter in my career where I continually strive to contribute meaningfully to the health and wellness of individuals, leveraging my extensive experience in the industry. The challenges of navigating through different countries have enriched my perspective and fortified my dedication to promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
Embracing the active lifestyle amidst the backdrop of beautiful beaches and stunning mountains, Vancouver seemed to offer an idyllic blend of both professional and personal fulfillment. Shortly after my arrival, I secured a position as a personal trainer at a prominent downtown gym, establishing a solid clientele base and concurrently pursuing further education through various courses that took me across different locales.
Life, at that point, felt like an amalgamation of doing what I loved in one of the world's most captivating cities. However, the euphoria was short-lived. Just 11 months into this promising chapter, on the cusp of establishing my own business, I encountered unforeseen visa issues that introduced a wave of stress into my life. This stress, unbeknownst to me, triggered my first panic attack, a phenomenon entirely unfamiliar and deeply unsettling.
As these panic attacks became recurrent, I initially feared a potential heart condition, only to later comprehend that my body was responding to the heightened stress levels. The fear of a severe health issue compounded the stress, initiating a distressing cycle. This spiral culminated in a panic disorder, trapping my nervous system in a perpetual state of fight or flight. The ensuing symptoms—depersonalization, derealization, digestive issues, insomnia, brain fog, anxiety—painted a complex picture of the toll that unchecked stress can take on one's well-being.
In the midst of what seemed like a paradox, where my ostensibly healthy lifestyle failed to shield me from the onslaught of stress, my business faced imminent collapse. Faced with limited options, I reluctantly turned to medication. This pivotal moment fueled my determination to comprehend the intricate relationship between stress and its profound impact on the body. It marked the commencement of my exploration into holistic approaches to well-being, underscoring the importance of addressing stress comprehensively for lasting health and vitality.
It was a pivotal moment when I realized that the bewildering symptoms—depersonalization, panic attacks—were rooted in anxiety. Traditionally, when we envision stress, it often pertains to work, relationships, or financial pressures. However, stress is an intricate tapestry, spanning areas like biomechanical, biochemical, environmental, and electromagnetic stress, among others. This amalgamation casts a shadow over the body, exerting a comprehensive influence on overall physiology.
Recognizing this, I embarked on a mission to mitigate controllable stressors. A significant focus was dedicated to enhancing my sleep quality—a crucial component of the body's self-repair mechanism and an integral facet of recovery. Immersed in a routine brimming with purposeful distractions to divert my mind from anxiety, I witnessed transformative effects. Gradually, my confidence resurfaced, and concurrently, my business regained momentum.
During this phase, I delved into Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN), becoming a certified FDN practitioner. FDN practitioners employ functional lab work to unveil concealed stressors within the Hormone, Immune, Digestion, and Detoxification systems—often referred to as the four main pillars. This diagnostic approach utilizes lab results to identify malfunctions within these pillars, paving the way for targeted healing opportunities. A breakdown in any of these pillars can manifest in various forms of illness, akin to the interdependence of the legs of a chair; if one falters, the stability of all is compromised.
The FDN methodology resonated deeply with my journey in managing stress. It provided the tools to uncover hidden stressors, from parasites and congested livers to the accumulation of oxidative stress and dysbiosis. By shining a spotlight on these often overlooked issues, FDN became instrumental in my recovery and served as a powerful framework for guiding others toward holistic well-being..
Embarking on the arduous path to recovery was a journey that demanded relentless effort and dedication. Having emerged from the depths of my own challenges, I found myself compelled to delve deeper into the intricacies of stress management and holistic living. The desire to fortify my system against life's inevitable stressors fueled my pursuit of knowledge.
Building upon the foundation laid by Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN), I sought further expertise and became a certified Holistic Lifestyle Coach (HLC) through the esteemed Chek Institute. The principles instilled by the HLC program not only expedited my recovery but also provided enduring guidelines for living. This transformative experience exposed gaps in my understanding of true health, prompting a shift in my approach.
My clientele, largely comprised of individuals grappling with exhaustion and seeking a path to recovery, inspired the establishment of Adrenal Repair. At Adrenal Repair, our mission is to guide you toward your fitness goals without contributing to the stress burden.
